Explanation of Terms:
1/4 Page Illustration is usually shrunk down to about 4" x 5" maximum print size. The details will not show up very well.
Because of this, the background and other details will be glossed over at this size.
1/2 Page Illustration is usually around 4" x 11.5" or 5" x 8.5" depending on the publisher and the layout. This size allows
for more detail to show in the printed version and does not run the chance of turning intricate details into 'spagetti' quite
as much. Backgrounds are fairly well developed to give a since of setting more than a suggestion, and the figure(s) are
well detailed.
Full Page Illustrations will be stock full of details all the way around. This is a bonified work of art that makes full use
of the whole page. Extra characters and action within the image can clutter it, but for the most part there is room for
creative composition however the customer would like.
Cover Art is typically the first and last thing a potential consumer is going to see. It has to sell the book or product.
Because of this, there is more effort and therefore energy (time) put into the artwork. Cover art is usually eye-catching
and (hopefully) considered beautiful. Interior artwork should pale in comparison to Cover Art.
