The vast majority of RPGs are set in a fantasy setting of some sort. In short, this simply means there is magic or some equaly fantastic source of power or oddness that separates the product's world from our own reality. Some have even declared Star Wars to be Space Fantasy instead of strictly Science Fiction. Still, probably the best examples of fantasy settings would be those of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings or even Dungeons & Dragons itself.
Typical fantasy tropes include, but are not limited to, magic, elves, dwarves, orcs, goblins, a pre-gunpowder age, mystical creatures, monolithic architecture, ancient legends and lost places, and of course, the enchanted forest.
